Through our programs, we collaborate with our partners in protecting and rehabilitating vital aquatic resources, such as the iconic West Coast salmon populations, empowering individuals through educational initiatives that integrate both academic research and traditional knowledge, we are committed to preserving biodiversity, honoring cultural heritage, and ensuring the long-term health of our fisheries. By actively engaging in these programs, we work towards creating a thriving natural world and a sustainable future that benefits everyone.
We are dedicated to safeguarding the Pacific Salmon populations along the vibrant West Coast through our current initiative and our efforts towards the creation of Salmon Parks, recognizing the need for protected areas that serve as critical spawning and rearing grounds for salmon populations. Recognizing the cultural significance and ecological importance of salmon, we understand that they serve as a keystone species, playing a critical role in maintaining the health and balance of entire ecosystems. By prioritizing their conservation, we ensure the preservation of biodiversity, support the livelihoods of Indigenous communities that depend on salmon, and promote the long-term sustainability of our fisheries.
Through these initiatives and our commitment to salmon conservation, we aim to make an enduring impact, to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty, abundance, and ecological significance of West Coast salmon.
We focus on the vital task of preserving the health and resilience of freshwater systems, oceans, public waterways, and riparian habitats in support of the FNFC Water for Fish initiative. These precious resources are essential for supporting life and provide critical ecological services such as clean water, nutrient cycling, and habitat for countless species. By actively protecting and rehabilitating these environments, we contribute to the overall well-being of our communities and promote a sustainable future for generations to come.
The Water for Fish initiative is dedicated to promoting the understanding and conservation of water resources and flow regimes, specifically for the benefit of fish populations and their habitats. By raising awareness, providing valuable information, and advocating for responsible water management practices, we strive to ensure the long-term viability of fish species and the ecosystems they rely on.
Through Water for Fish, we actively work towards safeguarding the health and resilience of our freshwater systems, contributing to thriving aquatic ecosystems and supporting the well-being of both human and aquatic communities and supporting a provincial scale First Nations water caucus and multi interest water table.
Education & Awareness plays a pivotal role in our organization’s tireless efforts to promote environmental conservation. We firmly believe that knowledge shared is power, and through education, we strive to empower Indigenous peoples, local communities, and individuals with the essential knowledge needed to make informed decisions and take meaningful action.
Through the Save Our Salmon Coalition, diverse stakeholders are brought together, including Indigenous communities, environmental organizations, and concerned citizens, to collaborate on comprehensive strategies for salmon conservation.
By fostering a deeper understanding of the intricate interconnectedness between human activities and the environment, we aim to inspire a collective commitment to adopt sustainable practices, engage in responsible stewardship, and become passionate advocates for the long-term health and protection of our precious natural heritage.
